Oriol Fuertes Cabello was known to AMES for more than five years. He was recommended by a professor from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya when AMES requested a Computer Science student to work part-time in the central industrial computing department of its Technical Development Center. Although AMES initially requested a student in the final college years, Oriol was referred and accepted despite being only near the end of his first year, due to his alertness, commitment, and intellectual capacity.
